Danny's Missouri Backpacking & Hiking Trails Reviews

1997

Green-Rock Trail - Greater St. Louis Area Council, BSA.

Location: Trailhead at Rockwoods Range just west of Six Flags, Allenton, MO along Fox Creek Road. Trail ends at Rockwoods (MODOC) Education Center on Glencoe Road.

Distance: 10 Miles Oneway

Water: Water is only available at the end of the trail at Rockwoods Reservation.

Parking: There is parking at both ends of the trail and at the mid-point of the trail in Greensfelder County (St. Louis County) Park.

Comments: This trail is sponsored and maintained by the Greater St. Louis Area Council, BSA (1-800-392-0895, ask for Camping). You can obtain reservations and maps here. There is no backpacking allowed along this trail but it makes a great day hike or preparation hike if you carry along your backpack. Permission for overnight camping for groups or scouts can be obtained from Greensfelder Park or Rockwoods Reservation. Camping reservation information is provided with the BSA trailmap. I have always seen deer while hiking this trail and have been hiking it for over 20 years. The trail is not flat and will offer some strenuous climbs in several locations.

Maps: Trail maps are available from the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America noted above. Quad sheets: Eureka, MO, 7-1/2 minute USGS 1:24000 Quadrangle.

Cautions: Summertime ticks and heat, bring plenty of water. You will pass close to some residences on a portion of the trail.
